Front Seat is a civic software company. Our first hit product was Walk Score®, which makes it easy for apartment renters and homebuyers to find neighborhoods where they can drive less and live more. We spun Walk Score out as a separate company.
Mike Mathieu - Founder and Chairman
Mike Mathieu is a serial entrepreneur focused on the power of technology to advance the common good. An active founder, investor, or advisor to dozens of civic, political, and for-profit tech startups, he is also Chairman and Co-Founder of Walk Score, a founding board member of New Media Ventures (a national network of political-tech investors), and a long-time partner in Social Venture Partners (the leading venture philanthropy network).
Prior to Front Seat, Mike was founder and CEO of All Star Directories, an INC 500-listed online marketing company, and spent a decade at Microsoft where he was General Manager of MSN.com. He holds a BA from Harvard and lives in Seattle with his wife and two daughters. In his spare time Mike enjoys skiing, running, reading and travel.
Alec Ramsay – Fellow
Alec leads Front Seat's research efforts and serves as Mike's chief of staff. Prior to Front Seat, Alec spent 15 years at Microsoft leading a variety of engineering teams in Visual Studio and Windows. In his final role, he designed and built the acclaimed new-to-program management training program.
Before Microsoft he was co-founder and CEO of Arcland, which developed the layout & routing technology acquired by Visio and Microsoft, and worked at software startups Applied Expert Systems and Bachman Information Systems. Alec holds a BA from Williams College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He and his wife live in Seattle and have two young adult children. In his spare time Alec enjoys running, reading and movies.
